Debt Elimination Programs - Avoiding Scams

Debt elimination programs are widely available on the World Wide Web. Getting out of debt is a great idea, but being taken in by unscrupulous debt elimination scams is an all-to-frequent occurrence. Such scam artists take advantage of your money crises and are not doing American consumers any favors.

A number of illegal debt elimination programs are taking advantage of the desperate circumstances of those who are in rapidly mounting debt. Most consumers want to Get Out of Debt as fast as possible and under these conditions of heightened anxiety they are likely to be susceptible to companies offering a quick-fix.

Shady debt elimination programs claim to be able to help consumers to get rid of their debt using 'specially prepared' documents. These firms then create 'legal' documents relevant to the debt that has been incurred. These are given to the borrower's bank, mortgage company, finance company, or other lender to try to make the debt 'go away'. This is a scheme not unlike that used by tax evaders in the 1990s.

The kind of documents that may be used in these 'so called' debt elimination programs may include fake financial paperwork that claim to eliminate debts. What these papers attempt to do is to question whether the debt is actually owed, They usually refer to a government agencies like the Federal Reserve as a way in which their claims may be proved to have legal standing.

Typically these documents question the Federal Reserve's legitimacy as well as that of United States currency. According to the BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM: 'the literature may selectively cite from passages of government publications, statements by politicians, constitutional provisions, court decisions, various statutes, and private newsletters to support claims and to ultimately conclude that a specific government agency sanctions these debt elimination programs. For example, some of the documents specifically refer to the elimination of debt through the use of a "Federal Reserve approved" procedure.'

Consumers need to be aware that such debt elimination programs are fraudulent and have no legal standing. Documents that profess to Federal Reserve sanctions and getting rid of debt once the documents have been presented are a lie. The Federal Reserve is not involved in eliminating consumer debt.

Debt elimination programs advertised on the Internet should be approached with caution. While there are certainly many helpful organizations offering debt help services online for free or a small fee not all companies act in your best interests.

These companies are charging big money for their so-called services and will tell you that your debts will be eliminated once they have been paid.

Consumers are advised to avoid such debt elimination programs and never stop their loan repayments on, for example, their mortgage. In doing so they could run the risk of losing their home to foreclosure or legal action. It will also negatively impact on your credit score. Don't get involved in shady practices. Pay your debts slowly if that is all you can afford - but pay them!
